MV SEA CLOUD
Sea Cloud Cruises' 360 by 48 foot, 2,532 gross ton MV SEA CLOUD also has opulent origins as Marjorie Merriweather Post’s 1931-built yacht HUSSAR (renamed SEA CLOUD in 1935). Serving as a weather observation vessel in the war for the US Navy under the name IX-99, she returned to serve as the SEA CLOUD at the end of hostilities. In 1955, she went to the Dominican Government as President Trujillo's ANGELITA and later PATRIA. In 1961, she became the ANTARNA for Caribbean coastal service. In 1968, she was bought by German investors who converted her into an ultra-deluxe cruise ship at Kiel. In 1979, she was renamed SEA CLOUD, and in 1980, she became SEA CLOUD OF GRAND CAYMAN, before reverting to SEA CLOUD in 1987. She now carries 68 passengers and is powered by Enterprise diesels capable of 4,998 bhp to drive twin screws at a service speed of 12 knots. Vintage Passenger Ship Roundup index
