QUEEN VICTORIA in Los Angeles
Martin Cox's photo blog of the Cunard Line's QUEEN VICTORIA in Los Angeles, CA, January 30, 2008

Los Angeles, one stop on QUEEN VICTORIA's maiden world cruise, 106 days in the length. QUEEN VICTORIA departed her home port of Southampton, England on January 6, headed to New York (with QE2), (for notable three QUEEN meeting with QE2 and QM2), then through the Panama Canal, to Acupaulco and arrived in Los Angeles January 30. She sailed on to Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Bombay, Dubai, transit the Suez Canal, then toAthens, Rome and Gibraltar returning to Southampton on April 22, 2008.

Invited by Cunard to visit QUEEN VICTORIA on her maiden call to Los Angeles, I hurried down the freeway some 25 miles from my home near Downtown LA on a beautiful and clear Wednesday morning, as I neared the port, I could see the distinctive Cunard funnel through the green silhouette of the Vincent Thomas Bridge. From the newly redesigned viewing area opposite berth 93, I began taking pictures of the QUEEN VICTORIA and met up with my my good friend and colleague Peter Knego. A barge was along side refueling the ship, which can carry 3,000 tons of heavy fuel and 150 tons of marine gas oil, consuming 12 tons per hour at maximum output. Photo: Martin Cox (c) 2008

Two painters, touching up the red boot topping, were dwarfed by the size of the ship, this was my first time see in the ship in person and I was surprised at her size. At 90,000 gt, she is the second largest Cunard ship. Photo: Martin Cox (c) 2008
