AUREOL (1951)
Elder Dempster Lines
Liverpool

On the starboard side of aft Lower Promenade Deck, just aft of the Cabin Class Smoking Room, we find the library with its wonderful wooden and glass shelves. This view is looking aft/port.

The diminutive Cabin Class Bar is on the port side aft of the Smoking Room. This view is facing forward.

The AUREOL's first class entrance is pretty much unaltered to this day. Note the well leading to the dining room. This view is facing forward through a sea of wood and linoleum toward the purser's office and another era in shipbuilding that is about to be lost forever.

The first class dining room is one deck below the entrance hall. It is shown here in a forward facing view from the port side. The room is sheared considerably and sports Punkah Louvres, beveled ceilings, wood beams, etched glass, and banquet style tables. It would be great to see it somehow preserved as one total unit.

Facing starboard in this beautiful dining hall.

Facing aft toward the revolving doors. Note as well the lighting fixtures. The cabin class dining room eluded our efforts to locate it during my visits to the ship. It indeed may have been replaced with accommodation during the ship's Latsis service, but this had not yet been confirmed.

Cabin c3. One of the pie-shaped former first class cabins facing forward.

A multiberth cabin facing starboard, number C23. Note original wooden and bakelite fixtures.

Cabin C87 facing forward. More wooden fixtures and a nice chair sample.
